Abstract

Hepatitis and liver diseases are global health concerns. There are a set of complications with liver inflammation which could result in cirrhosis and liver failure. Fortunately, with recent advances of hepatology in terms of prevention, management and treatment, laboratory diagnosis and monitoring of liver diseases have transformed greatly. Some of these achievements are advances in diagnosis of viral hepatitis and non-invasive diagnosis of liver fibrosis based on laboratory seromarkers. With knowledge of increasing burden of liver diseases, the role of laboratories in diagnosis and management of liver diseases will greatly be expanded in near future.
