Clinical Laboratory & Male Infertility Etiology
Abstract
Infertility and inability to give birth has always been a stigma and unpleasant issue for people. Human beings are innately inclined to reproduce and preserve their generation. There have been dramatic developments and breakthroughs in reproduction field when the advancements in medicine empowered the scientists to invent IVF since 1978. Dr. Robert Edwards succeeded in performing IVF in the same year and he was awarded the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine.
Louise Brown, the baby conceived via IVF, was born on July 25, 1978. According to the reports of ESHRE, more than 5 million children have been born worldwide by the same method since then.
According to international reports, among the factors inducing infertility, 40 % are related to female factor infertility, 40% attributed to male factor and the remaining 20% have unknown origin. In recent years, male factor portion has been reached to 50% in which the effect of environmental factors has got paramount importance. In the present meeting, we try to introduce effective factors in male infertility in conjunction with routine and specialized laboratory tests in the area of andrology tests. Moreover, we report the conditions for doing the tests and the results of the spermogram in infertility treatment centers and medical diagnostic laboratories in our country. Obviously, performing the test and reporting the results based on the latest standards of WHO have a major role in harmonizing the outcomes and providing effective health care to patients.
